Not playable without updates at all. You will be locked at the title screen until you download the update,. It can be played offline after the update, however because there is no Campaign, the only modes you can play are Multiplayer and Zombies. You can also play Blackout offline, however it is not reccomended to do so unless you can get a full lobby via LAN support.
