The game received an orange rating for "download required" because a torrent of bugs present, including softlocks and a lot of visual and performance hiccups.
- When submerging out of the water, entering/exiting a vehicle and entering/exiting a self constructed base the game will occasionally freeze for a second.
- The audio will sometimes disappear for a few seconds.
- The disc build has a low draw distance that is unmasked. Large caves and terrain will "build" themselves as you go through them. This also affects looking for wreckages under water.
- Large buildings will also completely disappear sometimes. This happens both when exploring interiors as well as viewing the exteriors and can cause some serious breaking of immersion.
- There was at least one instance where an exterior disappeared when walking through it causing a soft lock. Once the file was reloaded, however, this issue was fixed. This affects the islands as well which will sometimes disappear when looking at them on certain angles.
- One song features some minor audio skipping.
- Observed some of the larger creatures disappearing for a second and then re-appearing a handful of times.
- Schools of fish can swim through the walls of self constructed underwater bases.
- One area had a black square rapidly appear and disappear on screen when a certain floating island was on screen. This size of this square was around 1/5th of the total screen size.
- Storage Locker interaction is buggy. When trying to access one whilst holding a tool in your hand and standing over a meter away from it, the game will try to use the tool whilst playing the locker animation, eventually cancelling both actions.
- When standing on higher ground the sea becomes a flat looking color with a repeating linear stretched pattern instead of waves. This is rarely noticed however since there are very few locations high above the sea.
- The Thermo Knife still emits bubbles when moving around your underwater base even though it isn't in water.
- Sometimes when nearing large underwater ruins a noticeably loud metal sound will play and then cut itself off.
- An important cave that's related to a story beat has the tips of waves clipping through the ground.
- Encountered a Glitch where killing a stalker would just make it loop it's attack animation instead of properly dying.
- Self-constructed bases can still be seen from far away even though other landscapes like mountains and vines that should be blocking the view have properly disappeared within the draw distance.
- When putting things in the Aquarium you will occasionally be unable to move around after interacting with it. This can be fixed by pausing and unpausing the game.
- You are also occasionally unable to move after interacting with the cuddlefish pet.
- Stalactites have trouble loading in properly. This can cause you to constantly bump into them with your vehicle and damaging it before they have visually loaded in.
- The dedicated sound effect for entering your base through a hatch also plays when exiting the hatch.
- One of the sunk wreckages is invisible unless looking at it from a specific angle and is incredibly easy to miss because of it. It is also not fully explorable due to a glitches object blocking the way to the final room.
At one point the wreckages loaded in as we were venturing through the area with the Seamoth vehicle, causing the Seamoth to become permanently stuck in the interiors.
- Dropped items will more often than not fall through the floor geometry.
- The Anchor Pod plants violently jitter up and down.
- When jumping with the Prawn Suit it will occasionally play a weird jumbled sound
- Near the end of the game loading the save file would often freeze the game. This never ended up corrupting the save but it almost always required us to relaunch the game.
- The Spinefish will disappear when killing them with a thermal knife instead of insta-cooking them.
- It is seemingly impossible to get the grapple hook for the prawn suit. After having triple checked all of the wreckages on the map using a guide there seems to be only 1 scanable fragment. A minimum of 2 fragments are required to unlock the crafting recipe. Whilst it technically isn't required to beat the game it makes the process of getting there noticeably harder and tedious and isn't the intended method to beat the game.
- It is also seemingly impossible to unlock the Nuclear Plant for the same reasons as the grapple hook.
- A detached hatch of a Cyclops vehicle was observed floating a few inches above the sea near the Escape pod after having crafted the Cyclops which never disappeared.
- Object rotation is bugged. It will constantly try to move over to the next tool in the toolbar instead of rotating the currently selected object.
- A ghosting effect appears whilst traversing the Grand Reef Area.
- It is VERY easy to accidentally clip into one of the final areas of the game. This can cause you to soft lock.
- The largest creatures in the game will sometimes completely disappear.
- The top of the Lavazone has glitched lighting streaks, combine this with the low draw distance it becomes virtually impossible to navigate here.
- During the end of the game we had to restart the console a few times after clipping into the terrain and falling through the floor. It would not load the game after restart unless we fully restarted the console.
- The PDA will occasionally cut itself off. Important pieces of dialogue are sometimes skipped because of this.
- Some Audio gets very crunchy near the end of the game.
- One of the final cutscenes in the game is completely broken. Animations and dialogue won't play and the characters will just jump into their end positions.
