Fully possible to play through and earn the platinum unpatched without any major issues however the patch does change a lot of things including item locations, music, and more. Some minor details are also added in the patch such as extra messages and tutorials. The PS4 version also runs better than the native PS5 version if you play it on PS5 through BC at the expense of some graphical detail in comparison to the PS5 version
